TITTABAWASSEE TWP., Mich. — Another Aramark worker was fired after it was found that they served food to inmates that had been thrown in the trash.

MLive reports that “meatballs or some kind of meat product” were retrieved after being discarded into a box with a clear trash liner when a food worker realized that there were more inmates to feed than they had food for.

The food was rinsed and reheated before being served to the inmates. Other inmates who were serving the food refused to give the reheated food to those lining up for their meals, so another Aramark employee served the food.

Progress Michigan Executive Director Lonnie Scott released this statement:

“The fact that inmates refused to serve this food, and yet an Aramark employee felt comfortable doing so, speaks volumes about the company’s corporate culture. This contract has jeopardized the safety of prison staff, corrections officers and prisoners and Gov. Snyder needs to cancel the contract immediately.”

Aramark has a three-year contract with Michigan.
