SAN FRANCISCO — A seven-year veteran of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office recently donated a kidney to his co-worker’s son, after the boy suffered kidney failure.

CBS News reports that Jerran Higgins works with Garrett Ramos’ father, Sgt. Gary Ramos. Garrett suffered kidney failure as a result of IgA Nephropathy.

Higgins offered his kidney after finding out Gary had been disqualified as a donor due to minor health issues. After testing, Higgins proved to be a perfect match.

Both Higgins and Ramos are recovering together in the hospital. More information about their recovery can be found at garrettupdates.com.
