MEXICO — Four Mexican drug lords, known for beheadings, mass killing and brutal torture, are complaining about unfair treatment behind bars.

FOX News reports that Joaquin Guzman, Edgar Valdez Villarreal, Hector Beltran Leyva and Miguel Angel Felix Gllardo have released an 11-page letter to the Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission complaining about their “inhumane” living conditions at the El Altiplano prison.

They allege that they are forced to sleep in overcrowded conditions, some on the floor, and are only allowed on hour a day of outside time.

They also claim that their family members are stripped naked and humiliated during visitations at the country’s highest-security facility.

“The confinement is contrary to human rights, since it is not possible to be locked up 23 of the 24 hours in the day … It is impossible to prepare for the possible social reintegration,” the inmates wrote.

They request that their yard hours be increased to two a day, that they be allowed more telephone time, and request better public booths “as the ones they have in more advanced countries.”

The commission said that the complaint is being processed according to standard procedure, which is an investigation into the complaints followed by interviews with all involved in the complaint.

No one in the commission is allowed to comment on the case, but an online publication posted excerpts of the complaint complete with all signatures.

The prison was built in the late 80’s with the focus of preventing escape and protecting it from outside attack. Its walls are three feet thick, airspace is restricted and cell phone communications are limited to a six-mile radius.

Polygraphs are given to all level of personnel and advanced technology is able to pinpoint the location of every single piece of equipment (including kitchen utensils and tools) and people.
