++Summary++: Responsible for all phases of the day-to-day operation of a law library and a general library at the Northern NH Correctional Facility, working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis, having responsibility for security.
++Responsibilities++: Responsible for the evaluation, selection, and purchasing of legal materials to insure compliance with court-mandated guidelines. Reports to Media Generalist II for library service coordination.
Provides supervision, training, and education to inmate staff in all phases of circulating library: computerized circulation, inventory control, cataloging, book repair and protection, and record, keeping, in order to provide both adequate staffing for the library and opportunity for rehabilitation for inmate staff.
Evaluates, selects, and purchases a wide range of books, magazines, and newspapers to provide inmates with adequate, updated, recreational reading material.
Responsible for the daily scheduling of a large number of inmates requesting library use, in order to make maximum use of library space and available time.
Provides direct services to inmates that do not have access to the library to insure compliance with court mandated guidelines.
Evaluates, selects, and purchases a wide variety of supplies necessary for the effective day-to-day operation of the library.
Responsible for keeping accurate records of all material that enters, circulates, or leaves the library in order to minimize loss and maximize accountability.
Communicates on a daily basis with a wide variety of people in the state, business, and private sectors in order to maintain and improve operation of the library.
Provides role modeling, counseling, and relationship to a wide variety of the inmate population, to provide opportunities for rehabilitation through the acquisition of appropriate social skills.
Serves as chairperson for the Literary review committee which is responsible to the Warden for formulating clear, concise guidelines as to which literature (books, magazines, etc.) shall be allowed to inmates.
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major in library science, education, communications or a field related to the primary activity of the institution to which the position is assigned. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: One year of experience in library or media program work in such areas as processing, circulation of materials, dissemination of information, preparation of instructional materials, and operation and utilization of specialized technological services. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
++License/Certifications++: Must possess a valid driver's license.
EMPLOYEES WILL BE PAID AN ADDITIONAL $1560 ANNUALLY FOR HAZARD DUTY PAY
