Denver Sheriff Department

Denver is home to the largest sheriff department in the state of Colorado. The DSD is comprised of two divisions with diverse operations staffed by nearly 1,000 uniformed and non-uniformed members. These operations include two separate jails, security for the District and County Courts, state inmate transportation, extradition duties, fugitive and K-9 units, a Work Release Facility, Vehicle Impound Facility, and security at Denver Health Medical Center.

CHALLENGING & REWARDING DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS HIRING PROCESS.

Provides beginning to advanced level protective services for the City and County of Denver, which includes the security, safety, and care of those in our custody and the community.

Manages pre-trial arrestees in detention, medical, and court settings in conjunction with booking, fingerprinting, and processing at the Denver Detention Center.

Oversees sentenced inmates housed at the Denver County Jail.

Enforces courtroom security in addition to the apprehension of court-ordered remands.

Transports inmates, including state and nationwide extraditions, of wanted persons.

Performs operations at the Vehicle Impound Facility (VIF), which includes the Property Bureau Provides security for inmates in need of hospitalization at the Denver Health Medical Center.

Implements criminal and civil processes, such as evictions and the seizure and sale of property under judicial mandates.

LATERAL PAY Applicants for a lateral hire shall meet the following criteria at a minimum, but not limited to: Be currently employed by a law enforcement agency (to include law enforcement-related military occupations) or have been separated as a peace officer for one (1) year or less; Have a minimum of three (3) years experience with a law enforcement agency or related military occupation by day one (1) of the DSD pre-service Training Academy.
