Jail Officer

Duties include supervision of inmates in their daily activity and housing, processing offenders in and out of the facility, conducting cell searches and inspections along with other assigned duties in accordance to jail policy and procedure in compliance with the Virginia Department of Corrections. Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled environment.

Some knowledge of practices for modern penology as related to the supervision and care of persons under institutional restraint; general knowledge of the security, rules, regulations, and policy procedures of Rockbridge Regional Jail; ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly; ability to detect potential behavior problems of inmates; ability to detect the early symptoms of common health problems; ability to carry out oral and written directions accurately; ability to supervise the activities of large groups of inmates, and the ability to prepare records and reports.

• Age: Start 19 years old
• Education: High School Degree or Equivalent
• Experience: Prior experence in Criminal Justice preferred, but not required.

Must pass a background investigation, pr-employment drug screen and physical exam.
