++THE POSITION++

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to be a part-time Security Officer for the Court Services division in the Fourth Judicial District.

Location and hours: This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55487. This is a part-time, 20 hours/week position. The typical work hours will be Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

About this position type: This is a limited duration (temporary) part-time, (20 hours/week), non-benefit earning position expected to last up to two years. This position is internally classified as a Security Officer. Click ++here++ to view the job classification specification.

Effective September 1, 2021, all new job offers are conditional based on the candidate being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means 14 days after receiving the second dose in a two-dose vaccination series approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a full or emergency-use basis, or 14 days after receiving a single-dose vaccine approved by the FDA on a full or emergency-use basis. After a conditional job offer is made, the candidate must show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. Criminal background checks: Applicants with convictions are not automatically disqualified. Each case is considered on its individual circumstances and the type of work.

*In this position, you will: *

  • Provide security to courtrooms and holding areas in the Fourth Judicial District located in the Hennepin County Government Center.
  • Provide security for on-duty court personnel, which includes judges, referees, clerks, reporters, and attorneys.
  • Provide security for the public in attendance at court hearings.
  • Provide security for prisoners, providing for their orderly flow through the judicial system via escort duties.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:
    • Two years or more of full-time security experience such as military, police, law enforcement, corrections, or industrial/proprietary/contract security.
    • One year or more of full-time security experience such as military, police, law enforcement, corrections, or industrial/proprietary/contract security and one year of college or technical college course work in a criminal justice field (e.g., police science, law enforcement, corrections, and/or security management).
    • Two years or more of college or technical college course work in a criminal justice field (e.g., police science, law enforcement, corrections, and/or security management).

  • Experience:
    • As a Licensed Peace Officer.
    • In law enforcement.
    • Interacting with diverse populations.
  • Ability to:
    • Communicate effectively verbally.
    • Have frequent direct inmate contact.
    • React quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
    • Use good judgment.
    • Follow verbal instructions.
