SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Though an arbitrator ruled that a man with a troubled work history, criminal convictions and a history of gang affiliations should keep his job in the Illinois prison system, officials are still attempting to oust him.
The Illinois News Network reports that Xadrian McCraven was fired in 2014 after a newspaper reported that he’d been arrested several times. He had previously been fired in 2012 from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Published reports show that he was fired in 2012 after hundreds of lewd and inappropriate emails had been sent from his account.
McCraven appealed that firing, and the DOC reinstated him instead of paying to fight the appeal, according to Tom Shaer, spokesman for the Ill. DOC.
He was then reassigned to the Department of Corrections, where he was then fired once more in 2014.
This time an arbitrator ruled that he should be reinstated, but now the agency is appealing the decision.
“Situations like these are compelling reasons why there needs to be a comprehensive review of the state’s personnel laws and procedures and meaningful reforms proposed,” said Lance Trover, a spokesman for Gov. Bruce Rauner.
McCraven declined to comment.
