BAY CITY, Mich. — A Bay County mother asked a judge to keep her 18-year-old son in jail in hopes of removing the attraction of a gangster-style thug life.

MLive reports that Alex D. Michels, Gregory S. Smith and Devin L. Summers are all charged with single counts of second-degree home invasion and larceny in a building. They are accused of breaking into a home on the same day as Smith’s 17th birthday.

Michels’ mother, Angela Michels, appealed to the judge, Dawn A. Klida, on Thursday at the arraignment for her son.

“My son is a trouble child and Greg and Devin do have good heads on their shoulders,” Michels said. “I do believe they can make it somewhere in life. I think it would do [my son] some good to stay in jail a while. He wants to grow up and be a gangster and live the thug life and I’m begging you to help me show him what that’s about.”

She also said her son has undergone unsatisfactory mental health treatment and has a childlike mentality.

The trio is set to appear for a preliminary examination Wednesday, April 8.
