WASHINGTON — An inmate who sparked a 9-hour manhunt after escaping from a Virginia hospital with a correctional officer’s gun has been sentenced.

Yahoo! News reports that Wossen Assaye was sentenced to 32 years in prison on Friday, along with five years of supervised release once he has served his sentence.

Assaye was taken to the hospital after a suicide attempt, where he assaulted an officer and took her firearm. He fled, wearing only a hospital gown and hijacking two vehicles before being arrested in Washington.

He pleaded guilty to firearms charges in July, and has also accepted responsibility for other crimes for which he was charged or suspected.
