Ariz. senior correctional officer dies from COVID-19

The correctional officer, whose name is not being released, worked at the Eloy Detention Center

ELOY, Ariz. — A senior correctional officer has died from COVID-19 complications.

ABC15.com reported that the senior correctional officer, whose name is not being released, worked at the Eloy Detention Center. The officer’s last day working at the detention center was on June 7.

“We also want to honor our employee’s work to keep those in our care and our communities safe and healthy. Those efforts have never been more critical than during this unprecedented pandemic. We are eternally grateful for his dedication, service and selflessness,” Ryan Gustin, a company spokesperson with CoreCivic, said.

Gustin said the company’s Critical Incident Stress Management Team will be available for employees impacted by the officer’s death.
