Aussie inmates get sentence cuts over industrial actions by prison wardens

Prisoners can claim up to 4 days off their sentences for every day of union action, or for an emergency situation, which keeps them locked in their cells

FULHAM — Thousands of jailed criminals have become eligible for remissions because of industrial action by warders in the past two years.

Inmates have been eligible for prison term cuts of anything from four days to three weeks.

Some received even greater discounts because of cell lockdowns.

The State Government confirmed 35 days were lopped from the sentence of one inmate last year.

Prisoners can claim up to four days off their sentences for every day of union action, or for an emergency situation, which keeps them locked in their cells and unable to use exercise yards, reach mess halls, or do work or education programs.
