MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. — An inmate who stole a vehicle while working a trustee detail at a convenience center has turned himself in, saying he was “tired of running.”

Tony J. Carroll and another inmate stole a vehicle belonging to one of the site supervisors on July 18, according to WBIR.

Carroll contacted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday to turn himself in.

In the phone call, he told authorities that he was “tired of running and that everywhere he went law enforcement was there or had just been there and he wanted to turn himself in.”

The other escapee, Ricky Burnett, was apprehended on July 25.

Carroll was serving time for charges of theft, vandalism, auto burglary and destruction of valuable papers. He now faces additional charges of escape and theft.

Burnett was serving time for driving on a suspended license, manufacture of schedule II drugs, drug paraphernalia and violation of parole.

Carroll is back in Monroe County law enforcement custody.
