ELKHART, Ind. — A man killed in an Elkhart crash Saturday afternoon, April 18, was a 37-year veteran of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Gerald “Jerry” C. Webb, 61, was westbound on a motorcycle with another person when it collided with a car Saturday, April 18, at the intersection of C.R. 6 and Emerson Drive in Elkhart, according to a news release from the Elkhart Police Department.

Webb was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend for treatment of serious injuries.

The two people in the car were not injured.

Webb worked at the sheriff’s department from 1978 to 2006 where “he held many roles that included Jail Captain, Jail Sergeant, Corrections Officer, and Patrol Officer,” according to a news release from department spokesman Capt. Jim Bradberry. After Webb retired about nine years ago, he continued to work with the department as a corrections officer.

The crash is still under investigation by the Elkhart Police Department.

There was another fatal motorcycle crash in Elkhart County Saturday at intersection of C.R. 33 and C.R. 40. A 61-year-old Millersburg man was killed.
