BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused of trying to escape from a state prison by using false documents is back in court.
Officials say Gerald Joe forged a judge’s signature on a court order to reduce his prison sentence making him eligible for release. An observant employee at the Brevard County Clerk of Courts caught the error two years ago, before Joe could get out.
Joe’s near-release didn’t come to light seven months later after two other prisoners were actually able to get out of prison using similar documents.
