Ohio CO threatened by armed inmate
Authorities won't say what the weapon was or how the inmate got it into his bunk
CANTON, Ohio — A Stark County Jail inmate angered he could not be moved to another part of the jail jumped off his bunk, pulled out a weapon and threatened to stab a corrections officer in the neck about 3 a.m. Friday, jail records show.
Stephen A. Rivers, 26, was scheduled to be released from jail next Wednesday after serving less than a month for two convictions on misdemeanor criminal trespassing, according to court and jail records. Stark County court records show he refused to leave the Refuge of Hope after being denied services for previous complaints, and he previously was ordered to stay away from the place.
On Thursday, a felony obstructing official business charge was lodged against him at the jail. Details of the incident that led to that charge were not listed in his jail records.
And then early Friday morning, another felony aggravated menacing charge was lodged against him. He was accused of threatening to stab the corrections officer. The jail records did not provide details about the weapon nor say how authorities believed he obtained it.
Rivers remained behind bars later Friday, held in lieu of $100,000 bond pending a Canton Municipal Court hearing.
