Minn. legislation protects corrections workers injured on the job

Employees with Minnesota DOC may be eligible for affordable health care if they’re assaulted on job and no longer can work

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Employees with the Minnesota Department of Corrections may be eligible for affordable health care if they’re assaulted on the job and no longer can work.

It’s part of a bill introduced in the legislature. It comes after an inmate attacked corrections investigator and intelligence officer Dave Kampa while he worked at the Stillwater Prison more than three years ago.

He suffered a severe concussion and according to his doctors is totally and permanently disabled.

“The things that are wrong with me are getting worse, not better,” he said.
