MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Corrections Academy recently graduated 100 new correctional officers after 12 weeks of training.

The Selma Times Journal reports that former Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner William G. Sharp Jr. delivered the commencement address.

“Your training has just begun,” he said. “Remember to take advantage, and don’t be satisfied as a correctional officer.”

Class president Fitzgerald Clemons spoke about the importance of their duties, while graduate Aundriles Moore said she’s grateful for her classmates, instructors and families.

“The most important thing I’ve learned is to be firm, fair and consistent,” she said. “I also learned to take my training into consideration.”
