COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio prison inspector has recommended the state research other food vendors, after Aramark continues to cause issues.
The Marion Star reports that Aramark has incurred $272,200 in fines since it took over operations in September.
Several committee members suggested breaking the contract with Aramark. The union for prison staff wants food service to revert back to staff.
Other suggested ways Aramark could improve its service: by increasing security training of its staff by going from a three-hour video and review of prison policies to a few days; and by adding low-cost side items that would help alleviate concerns about portion sizes.
The recommendations will be discussed at a roundtable between the committee and other interested parties, including the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, to finalize a course of action. A date has yet to be set for the roundtable.
