BAKERSFIELD — A former correctional officer at the Taft Federal Correctional Facility was sentenced to 30 months in prison Tuesday for conspiracy to provide and possess contraband in prison.
Ramon Cano, 28, admitted that between November 2013 and Feb. 27, 2014, he conspired with inmate Gerardo Alvarez-Montanez, 32, to smuggle cellphones, cash, alcohol and drugs into the prison in return for cash, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner.
Alvarez-Montanez was sentenced Sept. 2 to five years in prison for his role in the crime.
