BALTIMORE — Two former corrections officers at the Baltimore City Detention Center have been sentenced to prison terms for smuggling drugs and other contraband as part of the Black Guerrilla Familyracketeering conspiracy at the jail, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
Kimberly Dennis, 27, and Antonia Allison, 29, both of Baltimore, were sentenced to two years and 20 months in prison, respectively, the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Dennis was sentenced Thursday; Allison was sentenced Tuesday.
In a plea deal, Dennis, who worked at the city jail from 2006 to 2013, admitted to having personal and sexual relationships with two inmates who were members of the Black Guerrilla Family.
Both pleaded guilty to smuggling contraband, such as marijuana, tobacco and prescription pills, into the jail for inmates.
The conspiracy made news nationwide when the sweeping federal indictments were unsealed in April 2013, detailing how gang members and correctional officers had sexual relationships — more than one of them resulting in a pregnancy — and smuggled contraband, including cell phones, tobacco and drugs, in the jail.
Forty of the 44 defendants have been convicted, including 24 correctional officers. Thirty-five pleaded guilty, five were convicted after trial, three were acquitted and one died.
