LOS ANGELES — Nearly a dozen people were injured early Monday morning in a six vehicle crash on the Hollywood Freeway involving a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bus carrying juvenile prisoners, authorities said.

All of the injuries appear to be minor, said Sgt. Greg Sallcido, a department spokesman.

The accident happened about 6 a.m. near Magnolia Boulevard as the bus was taking seven prisoners from the department’s Juvenile Detention Facility in Sylmar to downtown for court appearances.

The bus was using the carpool lane, Salcido said.

“The vehicle crossed over the double yellow line into the car pool lane an it cut in front of the bus,” he said.

The collision caused the car to go out of control and it went back across the freeway and hit four other cars.”

The deputy driving the bus and the one guarding the shackled prisoners all received minor injuries. They were taken to the Los Angeles County Medical Center for examination, Salcido said, and the driver of the vehicle hit by the bus was taken to a local hospital.

The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
