VACAVILLE — A riot involving 58 inmates preceded the death of an inmate at the same California facility.
CBS News reports that following the riot, one inmate was discovered missing during the evening inmate count at California State Prison Solano in Vacaville. Nicholas Rodriguez was serving an eight-year sentence for second-degree robbery.
He was found dead around 9:30 p.m. in a confined space within his housing unit. His death is considered a homicide but there are no other details at this time.
The death is being investigated.
The riot took place Monday morning in a recreation yard when dozens of inmates began fighting. Officers quelled the riot with less lethal options; three inmates were treated for injuries and one officer was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries. He was later released.
