PIERRE, S.D. — A warrant of execution has been issued for Rodney Scott Berget in the killing of Corrections Officer Ron Johnson.
The execution is set for the week of Sunday, May 3, through Saturday, May 9, 2015; an exact time and date is to be chosen by the penitentiary warden, according to KOTA TV.
Berget was already serving life in prison for the attempted murder and rape of a convenience store clerk. In February 2012, he and two other inmates killed Johnson in a botched escape attempted.
One of his fellow conspirators, Eric Robert, was executed in October 2012 for the officer’s slaying. The third inmate, Michael Nordman, was sentenced to life in prison.
