8 Calif. COs honored at awards ceremony

ELK GROVE, Calif. — The CDCR honored eight local officers and 101 others for bravery or heroism at a ceremony in Elk Grove.

The Fresno Bee reports that four agents from the Officer of Correctional Safety’s Fugitive Apprehension Team in Fresno were awarded the Medal of Honor for confronting a fugitive bent on killing law enforcement officers.

The recipients were Special Agents Scott Moore and Dennis Reitz, and Parole Agents Joseph Basile and Nate Castro.

Correctional Sgt. Jason Taber of California State Prison-Corcoran received a Silver Star for saving a woman from a burning car accident. Correctional Lt. Jacob Guzman and officer Lydia Galvan of Valley State Prison in Chowchilla received Silver Stars for attempting to save two siblings after they were thrown from their vehicle in a car accident.

Officer Raul Morales of the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and California State Prison Corcoran received a Bronze Star for rushing a woman who had been stabbed in the chest to the emergency room.
