GERING, Neb. — Theft charges against the sister of slain correctional officer Amanda Baker have been dropped.
KOTA TV reports that Cassandra Baker, 27, was charged with theft after taking a tax refund intended for Amanda Baker. Baker was choked to death by an inmate at the Scotts Bluff County Jail last year.
Prosecutors asked for the charges to be dropped and the motion was granted April 21.
Cassandra Baker claimed the refund money had been placed on a prepaid card and was used to care for her sister’s son.
