BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A Boulder County jail deputy lost part of a finger Saturday after sheriff’s officials said a belligerent inmate kicked a metal door closed while her hand was on the doorjamb.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Leak, Crystal M. Baucom, a 23-year-old inmate, became combative while taking a shower, and “forcefully kicked” a metal jail door closed on a female deputy, whose name has not been released.

“The jail deputy’s hand was on the doorjamb at the time,” a news release from the sheriff’s office reads. “When the door slammed closed, it completely severed the last digit of the deputy’s ring finger at the base of the fingernail.”
