Colo. DOC transport van crash sends 8 to hospital

MESA COUNTY, Colo. — Six inmates and two Colorado Department of Corrections staff members were transported to an area hospital following a vehicle accident.

NBC News reports that the DOC transport van was stopped behind a school bus when it was struck from behind by a 1997 Chevy Astro-van.

Two inmates and one of the staff members sustained moderate injuries, while the rest only suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Astro-van was transported to a local hospital as well after complaining of injury. He is being cited for careless driving. The Astro-van he was driving was totaled.

The DOC van allegedly sustained serious damage but the monetary extent is unknown at this time.
