City officials are calling the sweep for drugs and contraband “unprecedented”

NEW YORK — Both inmates and corrections officers were searched during a massive shakedown that was sparked when two officers were caught with eight ounces of coke and some pot stashed in book bags.

The NY Daily News reports that the crackdown will continue with the arrests of a number of inmates.

More than 75 locations have been thoroughly searched by Monday, including inmates’ cells, and commons rooms used by COs such as lunchrooms and lockers.

The sweep is part of an ongoing probe by DOI. City officials are calling the sweep for drugs and contraband “unprecedented.”
