DANVILLE, Ark. — The Yell County Sheriff’s Department is working toward returning inmates to the Danville Jail after a fire occurred at the facility on Saturday.

Officials believe the fire was started in a cell using contraband items, according to 5 news online, and Arkansas State Police will investigate the incident.

One inmate was seriously injured from smoke inhalation and remains hospitalized. Three other inmates and three employees were also treated for smoke inhalation and were released.

The fire caused smoke damage but it appears no structural damage occurred.

Chief Deputy John Foster stated the facility had just successfully undergone a state jail inspection a week before the incident.
