LAKE CITY, Fla. — Two inmates who claimed they were shot in March at the Columbia Correctional Institution have been found to have shot themselves in order to sue the prison system.
Actions News Jax reports that inmates Kirk Cartwright and Deshandre Billups claimed they were shot by an unknown person while they were praying in their cell.
In actuality, the two had guns sent to them through the mail in order to carry out their plan. Family members and another inmate, Tony Underwood, assisted them in the scheme.
The case continues to be investigated and more charges are expected.
