CLEARWATER — An attempt to use a McDonald’s Egg McMuffin to get drugs inside the Pinellas County Jail was foiled by detectives.
Bay News 9 reports that they received a tip from inmates that the plot was underway and found a suspicious parcel behind a steel box located just outside the visitor’s center entrance.
The parcel, an empty Egg McMuffin wrapper, contained over 50 prescription pills sealed in plastic.
The investigation revealed that Robert Stephen Lytle, 47, had brought the container to the visitor’s center and placed it where Danelle Schmidt, an inmate on cleaning detail, would find it.
Schmidt would have then taken the parcel to another inmate that shared the same housing unit.
When interviewed, Lytle confessed that he had made two other successful deliveries, all involving the same inmates.
All three were arrested and are now facing charges of conspiracy to introduce contraband to a county detention facility.
