CEBU, Philippines — An inmate in the Philippines was caught bringing drugs into a correctional facility inside a pastry called a ‘torta.’

GMA News reports that the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center inmate, named Norlyn Suico, was found carrying the pastry, which was packed full of methamphetamine hydrochloride, also known as ‘shabu.’

Suico was immediately confined to an isolation cell following the discovery, even as he claimed he had no idea that there were drugs inside the pastry.

This has prompted an investigation into whether inmates are being used as unknowing mules and couriers to smuggling drugs into the facility.
