QUINCY, Ill. — Three inmate’s attempted escape was thwarted by the corrections officer they attacked.
Connect Tristates reports that Cobretti Matlick, Nicholas Ray and Jason Keller obtained homemade weapons and attacked an officer, planning to take a hostage and escape.
The officer they attacked, still unnamed, fought back and a second officer responded to the scene. The first officer was struck at least twice by the inmate’s weapons. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
According to court documents, Matlick “held a dirk…to the throat of a [corrections officer] and stabbed the [corrections officer]” in the head.
Documents allege that both Ray and Keller conspired in making the weapon.
The officer is currently at home, recovering.
