A plant operations employee at Ironwood State Prison in Riverside County died from COVID-19 complications

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — A second California state prison employee has died from COVID-19.

KTLA.com reported that a plant operations employee at Ironwood State Prison in Riverside County died Wednesday from COVID-19 complications. No further details were provided.

On Saturday, correctional officer Danny Mendoza died after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. Mendoza worked at the California Rehabilitation Center in Riverside County.

According to the department, nearly 400 employees have tested positive for COVID-19, but almost half of those have since returned to work. Currently, there are more than 2,000 inmates with active cases.
