ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — After 184 inmates and corrections staff members were injured in a natural gas explosion at the Escambia County Jail, officials are now seeking new doctors to deal with the aftermath.
According to North Escambia, Corrections Director Gordon Pike met with jail doctors, the Escambia County budget office and the Human Resources staff.
The meeting ended with two goals: to bring additional medical staff to the jail to treat any lingering physical issues inmates might have, and to solicit a mental health doctor of address concerns of inmates and their families.
They hope to have a contract for a new physician signed by the end of the week, and plan to add six members to address mental issues.
A purchase order has been signed and jail officials are working to create a schedule for the new additions.
