MADISON COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating how an inmate hanged himself while on suicide watch in isolation at the J. Alexander Leech Criminal Justice Complex.
Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork said inmate Jonathan Lee Carter of Huntingdon was on suicide watch when he hanged himself Tuesday night.
Woolfork said staff members found Carter, 24, shortly after 10 p.m. He had been placed in isolation after he threatened to kill himself earlier that day.
Woolfork said the procedure jail officials are supposed to follow when they place an inmate on suicide watch is to move the inmate to an isolated cell and check on him every 15 minutes.
