UNION GAP — A sergeant with the Franklin County jail and his wife were killed Friday afternoon when a large service pickup struck their car on the shoulder of Interstate 82.
The Tri-City Herald reports that Leonard Shure and his wife JoAn died at the scene.
“We’re all in shock,” Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond said. Officials notified Shure’s co-workers of his death Friday evening.
It is unclear why the couple’s Cadillac CTS was on the shoulder and what caused pickup driver Brian A. Owens to strike it.
Owens was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, and his condition was not made public.
The incident is under investigation.
