BROWN COUNTY, Wis. — A Green Bay correctional officer is in the hospital after being severely burned by an inmate who threw a pot of boiling water at the officer’s face.
According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, the staffer was flown to the Milwaukee Burn Center for severe burns.
A second inmate who was standing nearby was burned by the water as well and suffered burns to his back. He was treated and is still at the prison.
Green Bay Correctional Institution was put on temporary lockdown while the Brown County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
The inmate and officer were working during breakfast in the prison kitchen when the attack happened.
Officials have not released the name of the victims or the attacker.
This is the fourth attack on Green Bay correctional officers in the past month. In late June, two GBCI workers were stabbed and beaten by an inmate while a third was injured while trying to break up the altercation.
