Johnny Depp could face jail time for smuggling dogs into Australia

Depp failed to declare the dogs and thus missed mandatory quarantine

SYDNEY — Actor Johnny Depp could face up to 10 years in jail after he illegally brought two Yorkshire terriers into Australia on a private jet.

TIME reports that Depp failed to declare the dogs and thus missed mandatory quarantine. The country’s agriculture minister said the dogs needed to immediately leave the country or be euthanized.

“If we start letting movie stars – even though they’ve been [named] the sexiest man alive twice – to come into our nation, then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody,” said Minister Barnaby Joyce.

Depp’s wife, Amber Heard, has since returned to the U.S. with the dogs.
