MOSCOW — Corrections officers in Moscow may be treated to massage chairs to combat work-induced stress.
The Moscow Times reports that the chair being considered costs 49,000 rubles or $1,450 and will be purchased for Moscow’s Butyrskaya facility.
Other facilities in line to receive the massage chairs are located in Nizhny Novgorod, Kamchatka and Yaroslavl regions and the republics of Mordovia, Yakutia and Komi.
Another facility will receive a chair worth 92,000 rubles ($2,720) that comes complete with an mp3 player.
The Professional Guild of Psychologists spoke out against the decision, saying the officers needed psychological counseling rather than massages, which they could get outside of their workplace.
Previously, the Butyrskaya facility considered tanning beds for inmates, but dropped the idea due to issues it would have caused to the detention regime.
