ALBERTA, Canada — Striking Alberta jail guards say they are not prepared to return to what they consider an unsafe workplace, despite being issued a back-to-work order by the province.
Monday marks Day 4 of the wildcat strike that has seen hundreds of correctional staff walk off the job at nine facilities in Alberta.
The job action gained momentum over the weekend, with court sheriffs in Calgary and Edmonton and correctional workers from neighbouring Saskatchewan joining the strike in a show of solidarity.
