KENT, Britain — A Swaleside Prison officer was stabbed in the face during a major incident inside the prison.
The Mirror reports that the officer had gone to investigate a fire that two inmates had started inside their cells. There, he was attacked and critically wounded by being stabbed in the face.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where it was found that his injuries were not life-threatening. He was later discharged.
The prisoners climbed onto an internal anti-jump net after attacking the officer and refused to come down for four hours.
A specially trained Tornado team was called in to restore order.
Since only two inmates were involved in the incident, it could not be classified as a riot.
