5 additional COs leave Del. prison after inmate uprising

The Vaughn T. Correctional Center’s security superintendent has been reassigned as well

SMYRNA, Del. — Five additional corrections officers have resigned from Vaughn T. Correctional Center since the inmate uprising that killed Sgt. Steven Floyd.

WBOC reported a total of 13 Delaware corrections officers have resigned since the Feb. 1 hostage situation. 10 worked at Vaughn T. Correctional Center.

DOC spokeswoman Jayme Gravell said an additional 12 state officers have retired or submitted retirement paperwork.

Gravell told the news station that Vaughn Superintendent Maj. Jeffrey Carrothers has been reassigned, but declined to comment if it was related to the inmate uprising.

Warden David Pierce has been placed on administrative leave, according to Delmarva Public Radio.

WBOC reported that 29 contract medical staffers resigned from Vaughn as well.
