SAN DIEGO — An investigation is underway for an assault on three correctional officers at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, Times of San Diego reported.

On Feb. 2, inmate Timothy Green hit an officer in the face and knocked him out, spokesperson Philip Bracamonte told the news site.

Green then advanced towards the downed officer to continue the assault, so a correctional lieutenant stepped in to stop him. The 55-year-old prison head butted the other officer in the face.

A third officer was injured while helping the lieutenant restrain Green.

Officers were taken to the hospital and treated for head injuries.

Green was admitted to prison in March 1988 for a 15-years-to-life sentence for second-degree murder. He was ordered to serve two additional two-year terms for assaults on peace officers.
