CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A third correctional officer at the Charlotte Correctional Institution who was fired after an inmate was fatally beaten will get his job back with the facility.

ABC News reports that neither the warden of CCI nor the state Department of Corrections could specifically say what Mesterly Saintervil did to warrant his dismissal. A total of 10 officers were fired after Michael Walker’s death in April 2010.

Those 10 were part of 32 officers who were fired during a statewide investigation into FDLE.

All officers who were fired as a result of Walker’s death say they were following prison procedure the night the inmate died. An arbitrator felt that FDLE hasn’t proven that the officers did anything to justify their dismissals.

FDLE says it’s part of the investigation into Walker’s death is complete, and has since turned all evidence over to the state attorney who will decide if criminal charges are warranted. It’s unclear how long that will take.
