Early on, she heard it.
It was a calling, Thelma O. Wright said.
She just knew for a long time that her life had a specific purpose. Though she had never set foot in a prison, she knew her purpose could be found beyond concrete walls and barbed wire fences, where lost souls dwell, paying their debt to society.
And the first time she visited prison inmates, the slamming gate and clanking lock behind her never caused fear.
“I was never nervous,” she said, soft spoken, but steady. “I have God by my side.”
And now that she is 100 years old, not much has changed. Wright is still living her purpose.
And helping a lot of people along the way.
