PITTSBURGH — Two former State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh corrections officers have settled their federal lawsuits alleging that the state mistreated them in the wake of abuse accusations against them and others, each for $50,000.
Sean Storey, of Mount Washington, represented by attorney Eric Stoltenberg, and Kevin Friess, of Bellevue, were among seven officers who were accused of hazing and abuses on the prison’s F Block and were suspended without pay in April 2011. All charges against both men were dropped or dismissed, and they sued various current and former correctional officials, alleging their civil rights were violated by the state.
The state admitted no liability in the settlement agreements, released to the Post-Gazette today following a request under the Right to Know Act.
