2 inmates found dead at Okla. state penitentiary

MCALESTER, Okla. — Corrections officers found two inmates hanging in their cells Thursday morning at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.

Jerry Massie, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections, said officials were performing routine checks early Thursday when they discovered Adam T. Wright, 42, and James R. Thomas, 36, hanging in their cells. He said it appears both men committed suicide.

Wright was serving life without parole for first-degree murder and several other life sentences for kidnapping after a former conviction of a felony, robbery with a firearm after a former felony conviction and first-degree rape. He has been at the penitentiary since 1995.
