COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center (WERDCC) honored two of their officers on Thursday, December 19.

Warden Angela Mesmer presented Officers Rebecca Teson and Robert Jones with Lifesaver Awards and Resolutions signed by Missouri Senator Brian Munzlinger. On June 14, Corrections Officer Robert Jones observed a visitor in the WERDCC visiting room in distress.

He notified Corrections Officer Rebecca Teson who approached the visitor standing behind the counter. The visitor was observed sweating heavily, having slurred speech, and was very unstable on his feet. After talking with the visitor, he stated he was diabetic. He then slid against the wall and dropped to the ground landing on his left side.

Emergency personnel were contacted, and officers Jones and Teson assisted the man and stayed with him until emergency services arrived. Once emergency personnel arrived the visitor was air lifted to Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.
